Fall 2020 RTW Review with Dolce & Gabbana
Comfort with a sexy kind of edge was the look of the show for Dolce & Gabbana’s fall 2020 ready-to-wear collection. Classic hues of blacks, whites, and greys in chunky all-knit outfits set the tone for a chillier season while still adding that touch of intimacy with gold details or silvery gems. Although this collection celebrated a more oversized and mysterious silhouette, there was something very refreshing about the way lines were utilized throughout the looks – there was a gentleness in the way the clothing draped on each model.
The best part of the show? The story behind the collection. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana went the more non-traditional route by having home knitters and crocheters from all over Italy interpret the sketches for the collection on their own. Everything from dresses to shorts to purses was game for handcraftsmanship.
This was a new experiment for the designers, but it resulted in a higher reward as the looks came out to have an authentic Italian feel.
This show certainly embraced an appreciation for true artisanship in a myriad of ways. It was a refreshing breath of air to see this kind of celebration for fashion, as it isn’t done often enough.
